New Social Media Sites for Members
How to join various social media groups/sites FaceBook: From Facebook’s help page To create a Facebook account: 1. Go to 2. Enter your name, email, password, date of birth and gender. (It also says mobile phone number but as a rule I do not have this on my account.) 3. Click Sign Up. 4. To finish creating your account, you'll need to confirm your email. Note: you must be at least 13 years old to create a Facebook account. There are different types of pages one can have on Facebook: Personal: This is what you sign up with when you join Facebook. Business, brand, cause, etc pages: Group page: Allows others to join and post. Can be set up so that people can join automatically, need approval to join, etc To find the Facebook page: type PA Society of Chaplains in search Linked In: Can sign up for a personal page. There is a free version and a paid version. Free version is all you may need. Linked In is a networking site and has group pages that people can join in for discussion and sharing. Sign in to your page. Find the icon at the top of the page that says “work” under it. The menu in the picture will show up and you can choose the “groups” option You will most likely see this page. To become a member of the PA Society of Chaplains Linked-In group, click on the “discover groups” and search for the group or use this link: Once you belong to a group on Linked-In, just click on the “My Groups” tab to find the group. Google+ Groups can also be created on Google+ but I don’t think you need a Google account to join the group, just the link: If you create or have a Google+ page: this is the link ( On the left side of your home page, click on “Communities” and this is similar to what you will see. If you have already joined the PA Society of Chaplains page, it will show as one of your groups. If you haven’t, you will need to try to do a search for the group or use the link: Some of the groups need the provided link for members to join; some do not. Once you click or find the page, this is what you should see currently (until something else gets posted). If you click on the pictures of the members, you will have a list come up and it shows people who have requested to join as “limited” members. Since I created the page, I am the “owner” and a moderator by default. Marianne was promoted to moderator as it is always good to have more than one person moderate. Generally, I will change “limited” members to “full” members and their status will show a blank space. Please note: this may be only something I can see as I need others to check and tell me what they see. My computer at home automatically signs me in. Twitter: Below is the Twitter page I created for the PASoC. It looks just like a personal Twitter page. The best thing to do is to “follow” it. I am still figuring this one out as for a short time, I managed to confuse Twitter when I signed in to my personal account (it kept showing the one for PASoC). I will try to set up hashtags at some point.
